Mackinaw Island, Michigan
, also known as Mackinac Island, is a virtual Victorian theme park island where transportation is limited to horse and buggy, bicycle or foot. Given its small size and seasonal nature, apartment rentals are not plentiful right on the island. There are, however, some apartments available as summer rentals, by the week, month or whole summer. Apartments are more plentiful in nearby Mackinaw City or St. Ignace (on the mainland.) The island is reached by ferry from these two cities for an affordable fee and taxis are available on the island in winter by horse and carriage or sleigh. Many businesses on Mackinaw Island close for the winter season and ferry service is limited at that time, depending on the weather.
